Cornerstone, in conjunction with the Sheffield Police Department, is hosting a women's self defense class. The primary subject of coverage will be specific self defense techniques that can be used in varying threat scenarios. These scenarios include but are not limited to:
Defense/escape from grabs
defense/escape from chokes
defensive posture
combat mindset
punch and kick defense
In addition we will cover situational awareness and how to recognize and avoid a threat.
The primary instructor Master Craig Masengarb holds masters level black belts in both Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido. He has been involved in law enforcement defensive and arrest tactics training for several years. Master Masengarb has extensive experience in training people of all ages and all walks of life. He also has an extensive competition history and is currently the president of the U.S. national martial arts association.
Jamie Whipple, who is currently the Chief of Police in Sheffield, received his initial martial arts training in Judo gaining the rank blue belt. While in the Marine Corps he received extensive training in military hand to hand and defensive tactics. He started his law enforcement career in 2001 receiving initial instruction in defensive and arrest/control tactics. He also holds black belts in both Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido. In 2014 he was certified as a law enforcement arrest, control, and defensive tactics instructor.
